Senior / Lead Mechanical Estimator

A Leading Mechanical Contractor is seeking an experienced Senior / Lead Mechanical Estimator in Pittsburgh to lead estimating efforts across commercial and industrial HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal projects. The successful candidate will have extensive mechanical estimating experience and the ability to develop detailed, competitive estimates for complex projects while coordinating with preconstruction, engineering, project management, and operations teams. Experience with design-build, design-assist, fabrication, and large mechanical scopes is highly valued.

• Lead the estimating process for commercial and industrial HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal projects.
• Review construction drawings, specifications, bid documents, addenda, and project scopes.
• Perform and oversee detailed quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
• Develop accurate and competitive estimates while identifying project risks, exclusions, clarifications, and opportunities.
• Solicit and evaluate quotations from vendors, subcontractors, suppliers, and equipment manufacturers.
• Develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs using project requirements and historical information.
• Coordinate with engineering and design teams on design-build and design-assist opportunities.
• Prepare detailed bid proposals and clearly communicate estimate assumptions, exclusions, and clarifications.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, scope reviews, estimate reviews, and bid strategy meetings.
• Analyze subcontractor and supplier proposals to confirm scope alignment and accurate comparisons.
• Support Project Managers and Operations during turnover from estimating to project execution.
• Manage multiple concurrent estimates and bid deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
• Provide estimating leadership, technical guidance, and review support to other members of the estimating team.

• 7+ years of mechanical construction estimating experience.
• Strong estimating experience across HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal systems.
• Experience working for a mechanical contractor, MEP contractor, or specialty trade contractor.
• Experience estimating commercial and industrial mechanical construction projects.
• Experience with mid-size through $10M+ mechanical scopes strongly preferred.
• Strong ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, bid documents, and technical requirements.
• Experience performing detailed quantity takeoffs and developing labor and material pricing.
• Experience with design-build and/or design-assist mechanical construction preferred.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or construction estimating software.
• Experience with Accubid, Trimble, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or comparable estimating and takeoff platforms is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred but not required with strong industry experience.
