Piping Estimator

A Leading Mechanical Contractor is seeking an experienced Piping Estimator for commercial and industrial mechanical construction projects in Pittsburgh. The position will focus on developing accurate estimates for complex piping scopes, including detailed quantity takeoffs, labor and material pricing, equipment and subcontractor evaluation, bid preparation, and coordination with engineering, preconstruction, project management, and operations teams.

• Prepare detailed estimates for commercial and industrial mechanical piping projects.
• Review piping drawings, specifications, P&IDs where applicable, bid documents, and project scopes.
• Perform detailed takeoffs for piping systems, fittings, valves, equipment, supports, insulation, and related materials.
• Develop labor, material, equipment, fabrication, and subcontractor costs.
• Solicit and analyze quotations from vendors, suppliers, fabricators, and subcontractors.
• Identify estimate risks, exclusions, clarifications, scope gaps, and potential value-engineering opportunities.
• Prepare competitive bid proposals and clearly document estimate assumptions.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, scope reviews, and bid strategy discussions.
• Coordinate with engineering and design teams on design-build and design-assist piping projects.
• Work with Project Managers and Operations during estimate turnover and project award.
• Maintain accurate estimating documentation and historical pricing information.
• Manage multiple bids and deadlines while maintaining estimate accuracy.

• Strong mechanical piping estimating experience within commercial and/or industrial construction.
• Experience working with a mechanical contractor, MEP contractor, piping contractor, or specialty trade contractor.
• Strong understanding of mechanical piping systems, materials, valves, equipment, fabrication, and installation requirements.
• Ability to interpret piping drawings, specifications, bid documents, and technical project information.
• Experience performing quantity takeoffs and developing labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
• Knowledge of design-build and design-assist mechanical construction is preferred.
• Experience with Bluebeam, Trimble, Accubid, On-Screen Takeoff, or comparable estimating platforms is preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and competing bid deadlines.
• Relevant construction, mechanical, or engineering education is preferred but equivalent industry experience will be considered.
